This is an exciting time for the Rutgers University Police Department. We have just relocated into our new state of the art Public Safety Building located at 55 Commercial Avenue. Our new facility allows us to bring on line many technological advances such as camera’s located in bus stops, residence halls and parking lots that stream to headquarters and are recorded locally. Our new communication center is designed for enhanced 9-1-1, geo based crime mapping, and GPS technology to all our police and security operations vehicles including our bus service and shuttle buses.
The RUPD is a full service police agency. In addition, we pride ourselves on the resources we provide to make your visit to campus safer. I encourage you to preview our web site and take advantage of the resources available to you including safety programming, escort services, security surveys for off campus housing, and property registration for your bicycles, laptops and other electronics.
The RUPD New Brunswick currently employs 58 commissioned police officers, 25 security and enforcement officers, and over 100 student community service officers that work hand in hand with our trained public safety personnel. Our police officers are commissioned by the State of New Jersey, armed and empowered to arrest.
We are committed to operating in a community based policing philosophy and encourage your participation in the policing process. The RUPD strives to provide a safe and secure environment to those who study, work and visit the Rutgers University Campus. As we develop programs, implement new technologies and take on new initiatives, know that the RUPD regards you as our highest priority.
I hope you will find our new website useful and welcome your suggestions or comments. Thank you for visiting!
